David Maish, MD

Hip and Knee Replacement Specialist

I am so excited to start the next chapter of my career in Frederick. My wife Ashley and I are thankful for this opportunity and look forward to serving the community. I have been training surgeons in Pennsylvania for my entire career, but I’m leaving academic medicine for a better work-life balance.

Over my first 25 years in Orthopedics, I have worked in 3 different hospital systems in Central Pennsylvania. I helped many patients avoid surgery but I still performed over 5000 surgeries including 2000 revisions. This extensive experience and continual self improvement allow me to help my patients with an excellent understanding of how to avoid surgery, when surgery can help, and how to deal with the complications that occur with surgery.

In some ways, I’m not entirely new to the area since patients with difficult to treat hip and knee issues from northern Maryland drove over 3 hours to my last hospital for me to do their surgeries.

This website is intended to share some patient testimonials, to help you understand my patient care philosophy, and to differentiate the roles of different team members.

Patient Education

Patient Testimonials

I greatly appreciate Dr. Maish listening to my journey and his willingness to see me and my problems as a individual and not compare me to others or say this is how it should be. I will be having my sixth knee replacement in the near future. I believe these knee replacements will be successful because Dr. Maish took the time to listen and realize there were serious problems.

Thank you, Dr. Maish, and your wonderful team who actually made me cry with happiness in surgery because my knee now bends and straightens! It’s already life changing. I am so very grateful that I made that last call.

She always says I want to be a doctor when I grow up. But now, she will say I want to be like Dr. David Maish, so I can help daddy with his legs. You did inspire this little girl so much by helping her daddy. So thank you!

Community Helper Day
I would recommend Dr. Maish and his team to anyone. I have never trusted doctors until I met him. He cares about his patients, very pleasant to deal with, and his patients concerns are his concerns. He is the best doctor one can ever have.

Dr. Maish spent all the time I needed to examine me, address any questions I had, and made sure I understood everything we discussed. I feel I made the best decision choosing Dr. Maish.

Dr. Maish answered all of my questions with thoroughness. He acted quickly on making a plan for me in regard to my hip issues. He gave me his email and hours available by phone in case I had further questions.

Fellowship

Clinical Fellowship

Serve and train future doctors who want to develop expertise and mastery in hip and knee replacement.

Geisinger’s Adult Reconstruction Fellowship offers extensive experience in revision hip and knee arthroplasty, complex primary arthroplasty and high-risk primary arthroplasty while also providing experience with innovations in primary arthroplasty like minimally invasive surgery and robotic arthroplasty surgery. This fellowship experience is ideal for young surgeons who will be expected to handle challenging cases at tertiary care centers or for surgeons who have previously completed adult reconstruction fellowships which did not satisfy the candidate in terms of the revision experience.

Resident & Fellow Testimonial

Dr. Maish was a cornerstone for my training in orthopaedic surgery. Being on his service as a second year resident was a large part of my decision to go into arthroplasty and directed my research interests in infection.

Let me start with a one-word description of the rotation. AMAZING! I can say with confidence that my training and experiences wouldn’t have been the same without that rotation. He is a great lecturer and teacher.

Overview

One of Dr. Maish’s patients made a donation in his name to be used for education or medical care. Dr. Maish used it to start an annual meeting for the four residencies of central Pennsylvania to get together and share their research and discuss innovations in adult reconstruction.
