Why Dr. Maish Uses Persona IQ

A measuring tool for reporting outcomes
Most of what surgeons know about how a knee replacement is doing comes from two sources: what the patient reports on a questionnaire, and what can be seen in a short office visit. Both matter. Neither one shows what your knee is doing the rest of the week.
Persona IQ adds objective measurements taken from the knee itself, every day: how far it bends, how many steps you take, how fast and how far you walk. Dr. Maish uses it as a measuring tool, so that the results of his surgery are recorded and not guessed.
What that means for you
- You can see your own progress. The mymobility app shows your numbers and how they compare with other patients like you.
- Your care team can see it too, between visits, without you having to come in.
- It supports, and does not replace, your visits and your own report of how you feel.
What that means for every patient after you
Recording outcomes is critical. Dr. Maish has embraced smart implants and emerging digital technologies that can provide objective information about patient function and recovery following joint replacement. Paired with the American Joint Replacement Registry, these technologies allow the success of his procedures to be measured for years to come.
As medical director of his hospital’s orthopaedic service line, Dr. Maish is responsible for quality across the whole program, not only his own cases. Measured results are how a program finds out what is working. See ZBEdge Analytics.
An honest word about the data
This is new technology. The manufacturer is clear that the motion data from the smart stem are not intended to support clinical decision-making and have not been shown to provide any clinical benefit. Dr. Maish’s decisions about your care are based on examining you, listening to you, and your X-rays. The smart knee gives both of you more information about how your recovery is going.

Important information
The objective kinematic data generated by the CTE with CHIRP System are not intended to support clinical decision-making and have not been shown to provide any clinical benefit. Not all patients are candidates for this product and/or procedure. Only a medical professional can determine the treatment appropriate for your specific condition. Appropriate postoperative activities and restrictions will differ from patient to patient. Talk to your surgeon about whether joint replacement is right for you and the risks of the procedure, including the risk of implant wear, infection, loosening, breakage or failure, any of which could require additional surgery. For a complete list of benefit and risk information visit www.zimmerbiomet.com or call 1-800-HIP-KNEE.
Not all patients are candidates for the use of this product and surgeons should evaluate individually to determine which patients are appropriate for remote care. Patients must have Internet access and a text-capable mobile device or a compatible smartphone to use mymobility; not all smartphone app features are available with web-based version. Some patients continue to experience pain and/or limited mobility. Activity levels and restrictions will vary based on your individual condition.
